A few weeks ago, I took the train up to Cold Spring, a little town in the Hudson River Valley about an hour and twenty minutes outside the city.
It was a GORGEOUS day, and we saw some of the most amazing fall color ever!
The main street of the town stretches up a hill directly from the Hudson River.
They sold all kinds of strange and interesting and weird things in the little shops (some antique, some just junk...) along the main drag.
If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend this quaint little town. It's a real piece of Americana.
We went back to the city feeling refreshed!
With the weather starting to turn and the calendar creeping up on October, I thought I would dedicate a post to the upcoming holiday. You know the one; it's the time of year when adults act like children and children, hopped up on sugar, act like monsters. It's the scariest time of the year, with the exception of August's humidity and freshly-cut bangs... But I digress. Behold, an homage to the cowgirl, my current costume of choice for Allhallows Eve:
This makes me want to go out and rent a bunch of western movies. It's been ages since I've seen some of them, and there are several classics I've never seen. It's not like me to commit to a costume this early, so I won't. But I'm pretty stoked on the idea right now.
I cannot believe it's almost September. Although, I think I say that at the end of every month... In an effort to fight off the impending blahs of I-can't-believe-summer-is-almost-over, I've compiled a short list of the things to look forward to after the weather begins to cool:
1. Lower electric bills
2. The return of smooth hair
3. Gossip Girl
4. Over-the-knee boots
5. Soup
At the present moment, I'm unable to extend my imagination much past these five items. Instead, I'm left wondering why it can't always be summer...
Last weekend (10/11), I visited Annapolis. I've posted some photos below from the boat show and other various spots around town. Especially great was JFK's old sailboat, which I was able to climb aboard, walk around the deck and the cabin, and even get behind the wheel! One of the evenings, I happened upon the biggest dogs I have ever seen. I'm not even really a dog person, but I had to stop and pet them and ask the owners about them. Apparently, they only eat about four cups of food a day, which really surprised me given their size. It was a gorgeous weekend, as you can see.
It's that time of year again when the inevitable question is lurking in everyone's mind, the time when falling leaves give way to something more sinister: What are you going to be for Halloween??
I bought these boots today. I've been keeping an eye out for brown boots for fall and winter, and decided to go into this shoe store near my apartment when I was out this evening. I saw these - for $50 off the normal price - tried them on, and immediately bought them. They're so soft, and the coolest part about them is that there is a hidden wedge. They look like flats, but there is an approx. 3 inch hidden wedge heel. I think I'm in love. They have them in a short version, too, as well as in lots of other colors. There's a cloudy gray patent leather pair that is really tempting...
